The Art of Downsizing - Moving Sale May 16 |
The Art of Downsizing - Three weeks to go before we move onto our boat!
To the right is a picture of just a sliver of what we extricated from our garage, shed, basement and main house. While I should have been thinking about foreign shores, sandy beaches and clear blue water, this last year, I have been really excited about purging unneeded items from our lives. We have been in our house for 10 years, had two businesses, three children and did a full house remodel. Needless to say, there were things to pass along to the next family.Working nights and weekends for two weeks, we sorted and organized through construction materials, tools, toys and much more. The day of the sale came and we were still hauling outdoor gear from the basement while a growing crowd of "early birds" waited outside our gate.
What was left after the moving sale day was a relatively small heap which we posted on Buy Nothing Bainbridge. Almost everything finally found a new home - we only had to bring a small truckload to Goodwill and another small load of recycling and garbage to the dump. Not bad. And, it felt really good. While we aren't all the way finished purging items from our house we had begun the intricate process of evaluating what tangible items we truly needed. Now it was time to start thinking about what we planned to bring aboard Agamere and what we planned to box up and leave in our basement.
All I can say is that this process makes our trip, which we have planned for a decade, feel real!
